Introduction

Types of Renewable Energy

Renewable energy falls under five different forms and for a comprehensive overview refer to Natural Resources Canada CANREN

Wind Energy

Wind energy converts kinetic energy that is present in the wind into more useful forms of energy such as mechanical energy or electricity.

Solar Energy

Is energy from the sun that is converted into thermal or electrical energy.

Hydroelectric Energy

Hydroelectric energy is a renewable energy source dependent upon the hydrologic cycle of water, which involves evaporation, precipitation and the flow of water due to gravity.

Earth Energy

There are two types of energy that can be obtained from the earth and these are earth energy and geothermal energy. Earth Energy uses temperatures found in the earth or below water to cool or heat air and water for buildings while geothermal energy uses steam or hot water in the earth's crust to power turbines or to heat buildings or water

BioEnergy

Bioenergy is produced by the release of stored chemical energy contained in fuels made from biomass. Biomass is a product of solar energy that has been stored by the photosynthetic activity of plants and the plants remove CO2 from the atmosphere and combine it with water to produce biomass.
